The project is losing maintainers. I am still doing some jobs but not as much as before.
I also don't have enough time to finish time consuming jobs like #5299
Yes, any project lose momentum at some point. But it doesn't necessarily means dying.
If anyone is interested in the project, but not diving in it because the project looks less being maintained, it is an opportunity for you.
Please contact me anyone who is interested in this project. I will try my best to support to do it.
I joined this project to get better at Rust. And had awesome years thanks to many great developers.
Hi, we've been exchanging messages on the Discord server these past few days (my username there is "Bruner"), and well... I'd suspected this was the state of affairs and so, now that I know for sure, I'm willing and excited to help out!
Should I DM you, or... what would be the next step(s) for getting involved?
(That, and if I were to get involved I'd like to have a small conversation - if you're willing to spare some time - regarding the project's "logistics"... shall we say - HR type matters 😅 DMs would definitely be a better place for that kind of exchange than here, right?)
I can see that you need more maintainers. I am Python developer, who have some Rust background also. I will take a deeper look of the project and maybe I will join to help :)
Hi, yes, right now i am working on upgrading dependencies like cranelift. As i am new, i think that would be a good place to start. I am writing a CLI tool which generates me a report of API changes between dependency versions(current and latest stable). In the coming weeks should see progress in that regard.
I am seeing an inability to merge PRs due to a lack of reviewers, specifically #5477 and similar. This seems like a more important issue now. I'd be happy to help with reviewing if needed.
@arihant2math Sure, I am happy to hear that. In github, everyone can leave reviews. That will be very helpful to reduce overall review cost in short time; of course it could be a part of long term recruiting maintainer process.
About the pending patches, we definitely need more review capacity for patches like #5453 and others, but don't worry about #5477 too much. I sometimes just do self merge when necessary.
