Beginning
It has been a tough and often depressing summer year unit_of_time. While I have some ideas of things I would like to write about, I’ve also been feeling really unmotivated every time I try. A lot of it is the shitshow that is the world these days. I feel like it has sapped my creativity, inspiration, and joy that I usually get from writing or tinkering on this corner of the web.
Still, the ideas bounce around and I’m not ready to quit. I’ll borrow from Sam Reich and just begin with some recent things.

Last week I got ramen with Joe. It’s always good to catch up, commiserate, and complain (positive). Unintended alliteration.

I took a picture of this street art outside the ramen place. The character looked familiar but I couldn’t place it. I did some searching and found it’s Pompompurin, a character from the Hello Kitty company. Better yet, I found the post “The Mystery of San Diego’s Pompompurin Stickers.” There’s a good chance I’ve seen others and that’s why it was familiar.
I bought a sketch pad with the intent to doodle more. So far I’ve used it to take some notes on a YouTube video that will hopefully become a blog post.
words count as doodles, right?
Sunday I got together with a friend to play backgammon. We usually do every month or two, but it had actually been since June this time. We met at Dark Horse and I got my first PSL of the season. Hashtag basicgRegor.
I’ve been playing Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and really enjoying it. I have often found video game RPGs kind of daunting with all of the options and have usually avoided them, but I was strongly recommended this one for its story, music, and visuals. It lived up on all those points. It was a bit frustrating getting the hang of specific timings, but it has been rewarding. The story is quite moving (good chance you will cry) and I highly recommend it, even if you’re not usually into RPGs.
I have thought a bit about maybe looking for a therapist again. Even just thinking about it is a step. I even did a quick search and found inclusivetherapists.com, which has a search filter for “Covid Conscious” which could be nice. I don’t think that is a must-have, but it is a pretty important part of my life and family conflicts, so it feels more likely I would be understood and not pathologized. This is anecdotal and I really hope not a more widespread thing, but I have seen videos of therapists and other healthcare professionals armchair diagnosing people online with OCD. No, thank you.

I’ll finish off this post with a couple music videos that I’ve really appreciated for the amount of human work that went into them. I think that’s an important part of resistance in this sloppy moment.
